Essay Citations - Essay Writing Help.
This page is a how-to guide for using individual book chapters as sources and citing them correctly in your papers. This guide will help you determine when to cite a chapter separately and learn how to cite a chapter both in the text of your paper and in the Works Cited page.
We have cited “Shakespeare” in the example above because he is the author. However, if you are referencing more than one Shakespeare play in the same essay, you will need to use the play title in citations instead. For example, we could cite both Othello and Macbeth as follows.
You can begin your essay with a quotation that sets off the basic idea of the essay. This can have a lasting impact on your reader. In the introductory paragraph of your essay, you can comment on the quotation if you like. In any case, do ensure that the relevance of the quotation is communicated well.
For APA, we recommend either citing the source as a book, or adding a description after the title in brackets. Example: Rowling, J. K. (1999). Harry Potter and the chamber of secrets (E-book). New York: Arthur A. Levine Books. For Chicago like APA, we recommend either citing the source as a book, or adding a description after the title. Example.
If you are only citing one source by Plato and the citations are all in the same part of the text, you can probably just cite the Stephanus pagination without the dialogue title for repeat citations. However, if the citations are far apart from one another, or if you also cite other sources by Plato, you may be better off citing the dialogue name each time.
The way you cite also depends on the length of the quote you wish to insert. Whenever you cite a quote, do not forget to write down the full information about the source somewhere in your draft to include in the Reference sheet later. An example of Bibliography page may be found in any essay or research paper you download from the web.
Include the author's surname and year of publication in the citation, and the full details of the item in the reference. Include page numbers in your citation if you quote directly from the text, paraphrase specific ideas or explanations, or use an image, diagram, table etc from a source.
