The Royal Commonwealth Society is pleased to announce that the theme for The Queen’s Commonwealth Essay Competition 2017 is A Commonwealth for Peace. Building upon the 2016 theme of An Inclusive Commonwealth, this year’s topics ask for a more active understanding of the role of the Commonwealth as a network of and for democracy, Human Rights and peace.
The shortlist for the 2018 Commonwealth Short Story Prize has been announced. This year there were 5,100 entries from 48 Commonwealth countries. Now 24 outstanding stories have been selected by an international judging panel. The shortlist has writers from 14 countries including, for the first time, Ghana and Samoa. Access the shortlist here.
About the Commonwealth Essay Competition: The Commonwealth Essay Competition, established in 1883, is the world’s oldest and largest school’s writing contest, providing a unique opportunity for young people throughout the Commonwealth to take part in a global educational project using English as a leading world language.
